1 tube of saltines + a few more to fill spaces
2 sticks unsalted butter (do not use margarine)
1 cup + 2 Tbsp. firmly packed light brown sugar
1 bag chocolate chips ( I use dark chocolate)
Toasted chopped nuts of choice or decorator sprinkles.
Preheat oven to 350
Cover cookie sheet with foil & spray with non-stick cooking spray.
Lay crackers sides touching on cookie sheet, break a few crackers to fill the spaces.
Melt butter on stove on low heat.
Once it’s melted, add brown sugar and increase heat to medium. Continue stirring until it begins to boil.
Boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly (set timer).
Pour over crackers, spread evenly with spatula|
Place in oven on center rack and bake for 5 minutes.
Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips liberally over top.
Put a sheet of foil over and let them melt for about 3 – 4 minutes.
Spread melted chocolate over the top evenly with a spatula.
Sprinkle nuts or other seasonal toppings over the top
Replace the foil and refrigerate until set – 1-2 hours
When all chocolate is set and no longer soft, break into smaller pieces and put in an airtight container.
